FIRE GOYA

Fire
1793-1794 Oil on Tin
17 1/4 inches by 12 5/8 inches
The Fisa Collection, Madrid

Goya painted over a dozen images on tin or copper. He used this new medium to experiment with crowd scenes, an innovation in Spanish art at the time.

This painting is said to be related to a fire in the town of Zaragoza, where Goya lived and studied as a child and young man.
